The Egyptian Rise in Global Art Gathering

Highlights of Five Egyptian Art Galleries presented in International Art in 2021

More than 300 art fairs and biennials are taking place in many cities all over the world, including Venice, London, New York, Paris, Singapore,  Dubai and much more. Their objective is to bring artists, collectors and enthusiasts together, creating opportunities to feel the excitement of sharing time and space. To see and to be seen. To become introduced to new galleries, new artists, new art projects and to be excited by art.

The first art fair is widely considered to have been the Salon des Refusés in Paris in 1863. It was a show featuring the work of contemporary artists who had been rejected by the Salon of the French Academy, whose curators preferred “the canon” of classical and Renaissance art.

Nowadays, art fairs play a critical role in the world of contemporary art. Fairs are planned strategically in the calendar to attract a wide variety of collectors, curators, galleries, agents, and artists. Art fairs keep the sector’s financial wheels turning, but the cost of creating these events is their biggest challenge.

In 2021, international art fairs and events featured around 2% of Egyptian contemporary art, showcasing almost twenty Egyptian artists. These include:
