Highlights of Five Egyptian Art Galleries presented in International Art in 2021
More than 300 art fairs and biennials are taking place in many cities all over the world,including Venice, London, New York, Paris, Singapore, Dubai and much more. Their objective is to bring artists, collectors and enthusiasts together, creating opportunities to feel the excitement of sharing time and space. To see and to be seen. To become introduced to new galleries, new artists, new art projects and to be excited by art.
The first art fair is widely considered to have been the Salon des Refusés in Paris in 1863. It was a show featuring the work of contemporary artists who had been rejected by the Salon of the French Academy, whose curators preferred “the canon” of classical and Renaissance art.
Nowadays, art fairs play a critical role in the world of contemporary art. Fairs are planned strategically in the calendar to attract a wide variety of collectors, curators, galleries, agents, and artists. Art fairs keep the sector’s financial wheels turning, but the cost of creating these events is their biggest challenge.
In 2021, international art fairs and events featured around 2% of Egyptian contemporary art, showcasing almost twenty Egyptian artists. These include:
Art Dubai

Gallery Misr participated in Art Dubai at the Contemporary Art Pavilion featuring four artists: Adel El Siwi, Amr El Kafrawy, Essam Marouf and Islam Zaher.
Art Dubai 2021 presented 50 galleries from 31 countries. It is the Middle East’s leading international art fair, taking place every March in Dubai, UAE. It is part of a vibrant and dynamic local art ecology and operates in close collaboration with institutions that are the heartbeat of artistic production in the UAE.
